Joy Core Muscle
Physiology is the branch of biology that deals with the functions of living organisms and the parts of which they are made up but to make it easier, when I say "change your physiology" I just mean change how your body is acting. Change your slumped, unmotivated posture to a more certain, ready to conquer posture. Change your breathing from small and shallow, to large and deep, things like that. I want you to try something:
Think of how your body would look if you were in a depressed state. Think of how the muscles in your face would be, think of the position of your head, your arms, your legs, your entire body even down to your breathing. Do you have that picture in your head? If not, get it.. and when you do comes the next part.
Now, mirror that look, GO. Put your body in a state of depression. Allow your physiology to match that of someone who was completely and utterly depressed. If you've done this, you'll notice that your representation of the world just changed. In other words, you suddenly start to feel differently. You may even start to feel depressed! You see things differently. You may suddenly become unmotivated or want to stop reading this article. Now, SNAP OUT OF IT. Change your body structure. Take a couple deep breaths, stand up if you have to and put your body in a position of certainty. Act as if you were totally certain about something, how would you stand? What would the muscles in your face do? How would you look? Once you've mirrored that, the question now is, how do you feel? Different than when you were in the unmotivated posture right?
Now I want to ask you some questions. In that depressed state, do you think it was possible for you to have gotten really angry without changing the position of your body and breathing? If you want to answer that question and see for yourself, go for it but you will soon notice that it is impossible to get angry without changing your physiology. You'll have to at least change the muscles in your face, and definitely your body structure. Here's another one. Think of that state of certainty you were just in, in fact get there again, GO. Once you are in this peak state, where you are breathing good, you're standing or sitting up straight, you're attentive, and certain, try to feel, in your mind, the feeling of depression or lack of motivation. You will soon find that it is, as well, impossible to do that.
Here is the point. If you want to change the way you feel inside, you can do it instantaneously by simply changing the way you are positioned on the outside. If ever you feel yourself getting into an unmotivated state, create your position of certainty, you will instantly feel different on the inside. If you are feeling down or upset about something, create for yourself a position of happiness and joy. Work with yourself to establish those positions, and then through repetition, they will become muscle memory. This isn't just a quick exercise, this changes everything. You can use your physiology to your advantage everywhere you go. Important meetings, in conversation with someone, at home with your family, whatever. Just be conscious of the signals you are sending your brain when you are positioned a certain way, and gain cognizance of the signals you are sending other people with your posture. Explore the mind body relationship, really become involved in optimizing it and I can guarantee you, within the next month, you will notice measurable results in some pretty important aspects of your life.
