Senior Taekwondo Kick
Am I a target for child abuse laws?
I read a lot of posts online from people concerned of being labelled a peadophile from perfectly innocent actions involving kids.
I'm a 28 year old male and I train in Taekwondo. Being a senior grade, I am often asked to assist the instructor by helping some of the younger students (normally about 10 years old) with their movements and techniques. The only way you can help kids learnt his stuff is to physically move them int the right positions to kick, punch or block properly.
The kids parents sometimes sit and watch and my question is are they sitting there thinking "I don't want that adult touching my kid when he's not the instructor"? I'm probably fine, but do I have to be aware of this possibility as it could happen one day that I get accused of something aweful.
to those who would advise me to refuse to assist. That'll never happen. Because then I'm just encouraging these ridiculous laws that treat everyone as guilty whether they are or not.
Andy, I do not think you are doing anything wrong. As someone who's son is in sports I do not believe that you have anything to worry about. Although we all know that there are alot of people who over react to some situations. I would just be aware of what your doing. You seem smart enough to be concerned about this and I would hope that the parents know you are assisting the instructor in class. Your assisting is never done in private is it?
